17 DE MARÇO: aniversário de ARACAJU e Dia de SÃO PATRICIO – a cidade, capital do estado, foi fundada em 17 de março de 1855, Na verdade o distrito foi criado, em 1837, com a denominação de Aracaju (palavra que significa cajueiro dos papagaios, nome indígena de origem Tupi), em 1853 o Presidente da Província Sergipe Del-Rei, Inácio Joaquim Barbosa, assumiu o governo com a ordem de D. Pedro II para modernizar e acelerar o seu desenvolvimento, criando então a Cidade em 1855. PARABÉNS a CIDADE e a TODOS ARACAJUANOS.

March 17: ARACAJU’s anniversary and St. Patrick’s Day – the city, capital of the state, was founded on March 17, 1855. In fact, the district was created in 1837, with the denomination of Aracaju (a word that means “cashew tree of the parrots,” an indigenous name of Tupi origin). In 1853, the President of the Sergipe Del-Rei Province, Inácio Joaquim Barbosa, assumed the government with an order from D. Já o DIA DE SÃO PATRÍCIO é uma festa anual, em homenagem ao Santo Padroeiro da IRLANDA, que morreu nesta mesma data em 461 d.C. Neste dia, as pessoas deste país vestem-se de trajes Verde e Branco, saindo às ruas em uma caminhada festiva.

The Feast of St. Patrick is an annual celebration, honoring the Patron Saint of Ireland, who died on this same date in 461 AD. On this day, people of this country dress in Green and White attire, taking to the streets in a festive procession.
