Day of the DISCOVERY of BRAZIL, of HUNTING AVIATION, of the LUSO-BRAZILIAN COMMUNITY, and also Day of the PLANET EARTH
Day of the DISCOVERY of BRAZIL: “Discovery” refers to the arrival of the Portuguese on 04/22/1500. On this day, Pedro Álvares Cabral’s expedition sighted the coast of what is now the state of Bahia. The arrival marked the beginning of Portuguese colonization with a significant impact on the culture, society, and history of our country. Currently, the term “discovery” is contested by some, as the territory was already inhabited by Indigenous Peoples before the arrival of the Portuguese. Many prefer to use terms like “Arrival of the Europeans” or “Portuguese Invasion.”
Day of the AVIATION OF HUNT: on 04/22/1945, during World War II, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) carried out the first Air Combat Mission in Italy, where the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB) fought alongside the Allied Forces.
Day of the LUSO-BRAZILIAN COMMUNITY: it commemorates the brotherhood between PORTUGAL and BRAZIL through the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Consultation, also known as the “Equality Statute,” signed on April 22, 2000.
Day of the PLANET EARTH: originated in the USA in 1970 when activist Gaylord Nelson organized the First Great National Protest against Pollution, leading to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
