Proclamation of the Republic Day: the Proclamation of the Republic, which took place on November 15, 1889, marked the end of the monarchy and established a republican government in Brazil. With the republican constitution, a new political and social era began, grounded in institutional autonomy and democratic representation. This day, celebrated as a national holiday, is a time for reflection on citizenship, democracy, and the political trajectory of the country.

 

National Day of Umbanda: today also honors this Afro-Brazilian religion, as it was in 1908 that Umbanda was officially founded in Brazil. On this day, the medium Zélio Fernandino de Moraes held a spiritual session in which he received a message from a spirit identified as Caboclo das Sete Encruzilhadas. Umbanda combines elements of Catholicism, Spiritism, and Indigenous and African religions, reflecting the rich religious plurality of our country.
