ARMISTICE of WORLD WAR I: the signing of the armistice on November 11, 1918, marked the end of hostilities in World War I, a conflict that caused millions of deaths and transformed global geopolitics. The commemoration of this date serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made during the war and reinforces the importance of World Peace. The war officially ended only with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 26, 1919.

 

Singles’ Day in China: although celebrated on August 15 in Brazil, November 11 has become known in China as Singles’ Day (Guanggun Jie – 光棍节). The date was chosen because the number “1” symbolizes a single person, and “11” represents the spirit of being single. In the 2000s, ALIBABA further popularized this celebration by turning it into a major shopping event, comparable to Black Friday in the United States. Today, “Double 11” is one of the largest online shopping days in the world.
