Em 24 de fevereiro de 1932, foi promulgado o Decreto nº 21.076, durante o governo de Getúlio Vargas, que introduziu o direito de voto feminino nas eleições legislativas para a escolha de deputados federais e estaduais. A data passou a ser celebrada a partir de 2015, com a promulgação da Lei nº 13.086.

On February 24, 1932, Decree No. 21,076 was promulgated during the government of Getúlio Vargas, which introduced the right of women to vote in legislative elections for the selection of federal and state deputies. The date began to be celebrated starting in 2015, with the promulgation of Law No. 13,086.

1934: apesar dessa conquista, é importante ressaltar que o direito de voto feminino era inicialmente restrito a mulheres casadas com autorização do marido, viúvas e solteiras com renda própria. Somente em 1934, com a promulgação da Constituição Federal, o direito de voto foi estendido a todas as mulheres brasileiras, sem distinção civil ou de renda.

1934: Despite this achievement, it is important to emphasize that the right to vote for women was initially restricted to married women with their husband’s permission, widows, and single women with their own income. Only in 1934, with the promulgation of the Federal Constitution, was the right to vote extended to all Brazilian women, without civil or income distinction.

EUA 1920: a conquista do voto feminino foi resultado de um longo processo de lutas e mobilizações das mulheres brasileiras por direitos políticos e igualdade de gênero. No contexto internacional, movimentos sufragistas ao redor do mundo, como o que culminou na conquista do direito de voto para as mulheres nos Estados Unidos em 1920, influenciaram a luta das mulheres brasileiras.

USA 1920: The conquest of women’s suffrage was the result of a long process of struggles and mobilizations by Brazilian women for political rights and gender equality. In the international context, suffragist movements around the world, such as the one that led to women’s suffrage in the United States in 1920, influenced the struggle of Brazilian women.

Assim, o dia 24 de fevereiro marca um momento de avanço na luta pela igualdade de gênero e reconhecimento dos direitos das MULHERES no BRASIL.
