National Diabetes Day:
aims to raise awareness among the Brazilian population about the prevention and control of diabetes, a chronic disease that affects millions of people in the country. The date was instituted by Law 12.615, on April 30, 2012, as a way to draw attention to the need for effective public policies to combat the disease and its complications.
Metrologist Day:
metrology is the science of measurement, essential to ensure the accuracy and reliability of measurements in areas such as Industry, Commerce, Health, and Research. The work of metrologists is important for Technological Development, Product Quality, and even Consumer Safety. The date was chosen to commemorate the creation of INMETRO (National Institute of Metrology, Quality, and Technology), which occurred on June 26, 1973.
International Day in Support of Victims of Torture:
this date was proclaimed by the UN in 1997 to honor and support the victims of torture and to reaffirm the need to Eradicate Torture and Ensure the full application of the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking:
also established by the UN, but in 1987, aims to strengthen Action and Cooperation to achieve a Society Free of Drug Abuse. It is an opportunity for Governments, NGOs, and Citizens around the World to mobilize to combat the drug problem.
