PRESS DAY: in celebration of the launch of the first Brazilian newspaper, “Correio Braziliense,” in 1808. The date is an occasion to reflect on the importance of a free and independent media in the construction and maintenance of a just and democratic society. Celebrating this day is to value the work of journalists and communication professionals who face challenges daily to ensure that the population is well-informed and can fully exercise their citizenship.
WORLD ENVIRONMENT WEEK: celebrated annually in the first week of June, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and promoting awareness and education about sustainability. Environment Week was established in BRAZIL in 1981 with the creation of the National Environmental Policy and coincides with World Environment Day, June 5th, established by the UN in 1972.
PREVENTIVE HEALTHCARE: plays an important role in life, but priorities and challenges vary with age:
Priorities: fall prevention (strengthening muscles and bones), mental health (detection, treatment, and psychological support), and care for chronic diseases (starts in youth and now becomes more severe).
- Maintaining Physical Activity: a) start with daily 30-minute walks and gradually increase; b) participate in Yoga classes to relax and improve balance; c) practice resistance exercises two or three times a week to strengthen muscles.
- Balanced Diet: a) diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains; b) reduce salt and sugar intake to control blood pressure and diabetes; c) supplement with Vitamin D and Calcium to prevent osteoporosis.
- Regular Health Monitoring and Vaccination: a) periodic medical consultations and vaccinations; b) regular blood tests to monitor cholesterol and glucose levels; c) annual eye exams to detect problems.
- Mental Health: a) participate in social activities to avoid isolation; b) therapy and counseling sessions whenever necessary; c) meditation practices, games, and leisure activities to reduce stress.
- Fall Prevention: a) installation of grab bars in the bathroom; b) use of non-slip sole shoes; c) home evaluation to remove tripping hazards, such as loose rugs and obstacles in the way.
