WORLD SCOUT DAY, WORLD BOOK AND COPYRIGHT DAY, and CHORO DAY (CHORINHO)

World SCOUT Day: The date was chosen by the founder of the Scout Movement, Robert Baden-Powell, as it coincides with the celebration of SAINT GEORGE’S DAY, the patron saint of Scouting – at that time, in 1910, it was common to choose saints as patrons. Nowadays, even without the “Saint” character, GEORGE OF CAPPADOCIA continues to be a reference for Scouts.

World BOOK and AUTHOR RIGHTS Day: Promoted by UNESCO to promote Reading, Publishing, and Protection of Copyrights. This Date was chosen in tribute to the Writers Miguel de Cervantes, Inca Garcilaso de La Vega, and William Shakespeare, who died on April 23, 1616. The idea was proposed in 1925, in Tokyo, by Vicente Clavel Andrés, a Spanish Writer and Editor.

National CHORO (Chorinho) Day: It was chosen in homage to the Composer and Multi-instrumentalist PIXINGUINHA, one of the genre’s exponents, who was born on April 23, 1897. Choro has its origins in the 19th century, mainly in Rio de Janeiro, and is known for its Melodic and Rhythmic Complexity, as well as the Virtuoso Improvisation of the Musicians. Instruments such as the Guitar, the Cavaquinho, the Mandolin, and the Pandeiro are Commonly used to play this Style.
