National Football Day: the date was created by the Brazilian Sports Confederation (CBD) in 1976 to honor the most popular sport in the country. July 19th was chosen because it is the anniversary of Sport Club Rio Grande (a club nicknamed Vovô, from the Second Division of Gaucho Football), founded in 1900 and considered the oldest football club still active in Brazil. The celebration highlights the passion for football, which is an integral part of the national culture and identity.

Anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution (Nicaragua): on July 19, 1979, the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) overthrew the dictatorship of Anastasio Somoza Debayle in Nicaragua, marking the end of a long revolutionary struggle.
